# Liquidity and capacity

> How much you can trade at a firm price right now, how to read it, and what to do when you need more on a corridor.

## Capacity is a number you read, not a promise

Aile owns no inventory. Independent market makers quote from what they hold, and the API tells you, at
every step, how much that is:

* `GET /levels` → `maxFirmSize` per direction: the largest size you can get a firm quote for right now,
  in both tokens, with the price after the spread.
* `GET /quote` → `maxFirmSize` again, at the rate you were just quoted.
* A request above it answers `400 over-size`, with the maximum in the detail.

These are facts about the present. Aile does not publish or promise future depth, rates or availability;
a venue that did would be a dealer. What it does instead is show the capacity in every answer and put
every fill on chain, so you can measure what the venue delivered.

## Reading the levels

```json theme={null}
{
  "sellToken": "EURC",
  "buyToken": "USDC",
  "firmQuoted": true,
  "makers": 1,
  "maxFirmSize": { "sellAmount": "2366029", "buyAmount": "2630005" },
  "reference": { "rate": "1.1143555", "source": "chainlink", "at": 1794117505 }
}
```

* `makers` is how many makers quote this direction now.
* `maxFirmSize` is bounded by the maker's wallet balance for the bought token, its allowance to the
  order protocol, the largest swap its book allows, and quotes it is currently holding for other takers.
  It moves as fills happen and as the maker rebalances.
* `reason` on a direction that is not quoted tells you whether it is a funding question
  (`maker-underfunded`, `maker-allowance`), a pricing one (`no-price`) or a venue one (`kill-switch`).

## Sizing your product

Capacity on a corridor is a function of the makers' inventory and how fast they rebalance it through
issuer mint-and-redeem rails and off-chain FX desks. Poll `GET /levels` over a few days at the hours
that matter to you: the `maxFirmSize` series per direction is the capacity your product can count on
today, and the basis for a conversation about more.

## Need more on a corridor?

If your product needs more than the levels show on a pair, a size that must always be available, or a
pair that is not quoted yet, write to [hello@aile.tech](mailto:hello@aile.tech) with the corridor, the
expected daily volume and ticket sizes, and the hours that matter to you. Dedicated capacity is arranged
with the market makers per corridor; the venue itself stays open and permissionless.

## Becoming a maker

The maker side is open to independent trading firms that hold inventory in these stablecoins and want to
quote on the venue from their own wallets. Write to [hello@aile.tech](mailto:hello@aile.tech).
